Electric vehicle charging stations are used to recharge electrical cars at home, at the office, and in the street.
Since 1st January 2015, in France, it has been obligatory to install a socket to recharge electrical vehicles in a condominium (there was previously a similar situation with television antennas) if one is requested.
The subject is much more complex than it may seem for several reasons:
- What technical choice should be used to connect the device?
- A private line that comes directly from the driver’s home?
- A circuit from the utilities distribution board?
- A dedicated subscription?
- Will the connection choice still be valid if demand increases in the next 5 years?
A thorough analysis has to be carried out given the numerous considerations to take into account. Even under normal charging conditions (8 hours up to 3.7 kVA), consumption is high. The electric system will have to be checked to ensure that the subscription can sustain it, that the electricity shaft in the building can accept a greater utilities subscription, or perhaps even additional subscriptions…
Also to be determined are the acceptable charging modes, charging speeds, what format for the outlets, whether more charging power is needed during the day or at night …
Knowledge of energy management will also come into play with the prioritizing of receivers. If we don’t have enough available power to start with, we have to be sure that the lift pumps or elevators will not stopped and that the utilities circuit breaker won’t be thrown if three people decide to recharge their vehicles at the same time!
As for the invoicing of energy, only an energy operator can sell electricity so we need to find an efficient way of distributing the costs between the charging stations.
We propose an all-in-one solution with our partners Park & Plug et Comelit, where the user identifies himself at the station with the same vigik badge he used to enter the building. This starts the charging station power supply. The electricity used will be added to a personal account that can be accessed via Internet so that the user can check his consumption on the Park & Plug site (the site sends a consumption statement every month to the managing agent for maintenance cost deduction). Different rights may be allocated to different badges, for instance, the shop on the ground floor might be authorized to charge their vehicle only during the day, or access may be limited to a certain station, etc.…
